Hamstead Cruises at the Glen

The iRacing.com V8 Supercar Series presented by Big Pond came to America last week, with a thirty-lap event at Watkins Glen. The track was set in its Cup configuration, so the large, heavy Ford Falcon would need to negotiate the Inner Loop chicane. As has become the custom this season, V8SC Americas kicked off the week with the first official race, at 02:45 GMT Friday (9:45 PM EST).  29 sim racers made the grid, strong enough attendance for the race to split. Canadian Curtis Chippeway won, for the second straight week, with Charlotte-based Jeremy Burris and Californian Ray Butcher completing the podium. Same time the next day, and the Americans were at it again; this time, however, Chippeway was joined on the podium by Dutchman Thomas van Bussel (the winner) [...]

McLeod Wins Battle, Loses War

MADISON DOWN THE SERIES CHAMP AGAIN Just to add a little spice to the already-hot iRacing V8 Supercar Series finale, series points leader Madison Down was unable to front for the maximum points Monday Night Showdown at Road Atlanta due to pressing travel arrangements. While some would argue that it detracted from the event, leaving the series destiny at the mercy of an SOF points variable, it also meant that Mitchell McLeod and Rens Broekman, both trailing Down, would have a genuine shot at series victory. At the very least, the points gap would be minimal. Broekman drew first blood with pole position by a tenth of a second, which is a country mile in this series. McLeod put the Tatts.com Falcon on the front row. Mick Claridge made a [...]

Alfalla, Luvender Named iRacers of the Year

The members of iRacing.com have named 2011 NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Champion (NiSWC) Ray Alfalla and Trading Paints? Steve Luvender iRacers of the Year.  The members selected Alfalla (Driver of the Year) and Luvender (Member of the Year) from an outstanding field of nominees during voting between December 15 and 31, 2011. Alfalla scored three wins and eight more top five finishes en route to the 2011 NiSWC, clinching the title with one race remaining in the season.  In addition, he enhanced his reputation as a fine all ?round sim racer by taking a pair of top five finishes en route to fifteenth in the NVIDIA Grand Prix Series (NGPS). ?First I?d like to thank all of the iRacers who voted for me. This is the icing on the cake [...]

iRacer Profile – Brandon Buchberger

Brandon Buchberger?s name may not quite be synonymous with the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series, but that?s not for wanting of trying ? or a lack of results ? on the part of the Sugar Grove, IL resident.  Consider that, since first running the NiCCS seriously in 2009, Season 4, Buchberger has never finished worse than ninth in the overall standings; or that he?s amassed nearly 80 wins in that stretch. True, the NiCCS title has been elusive ? so far ? the 24 year old Buchberger wheeled his Silverado into the series points lead in the early going on the strength of three wins in six starts, to enjoy a narrow edge on rivals Alex Warren and Tyler D Hudson.   A frontrunner in the GSRacing.net Truck Series league, Buchberger [...]

Kerkhof The King of Okayama

In a hard-fought 83 laps around the Okayama International Circuit, Atze Kerkhof secured his second outright victory in the iRacing.com Pro Series Road Racing to further extend his lead at the top of the leader-board. With a brace of races now complete, Kerkhof?s is the only name to adorn the the winners column following another formidable driving display in his bid to reach the 2012 iRacing.com NVIDIA Grand Prix Series. Although Kerkhof was pipped to pole position by Martin Kronke, who set a time of 1:06.416 during his solitary qualifying run, Team Redline’s newest member soon redressed the balance by snatching the lead at the opening corner. ?The start was not one of my best to be honest,? conceded Kronke. ?I released the clutch a little bit too fast and [...]

Hunting Down

The iRacers converged on Road Atlanta for Season Three’s final round of the iRacing.com V8 Supercar Series by Bigpond Sport. Much like the Las Vegas IZOD IndyCar finale’s celebrations were horribly muted by the loss of Dan Wheldon, this end-of-term party was spoiled by yet another motorsport tragedy, this time the death of MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli. It was a dark week for world motorsport. As said last week, the whole motorsport community feels it heavily, and sim racers are no different. Still, the V8 iRacers got on with business and with Madison Down atop the series ladder with a margin of 68 points to Mitchell McLeod, a solid result would secure his second title. But this is sim racing,  where real life tends to get in the way somewhat [...]

Rising Stars in Sebring Darkness

With Australia’s biggest V8 Supercar race, the Bathurst 1000, run and won in the real world the day before, the V8 iRacers were missing one or two of their real-world regulars, for obvious reasons. At Week Ten of the iRacing V8 Supercar Series by Bigpond Sport, the battle was revisited under the night skies of Sebring. Unlike NASCAR, Australia’s premier race cars’ headlights are real. With daylight savings the focus, and the availability, of the competitors was divided over two evening races. For “Race 1″ of Week Ten, Rens Broekman was on pole from series leader Madison Down. Joshua Muggleton followed up his VIR podium with third grid spot here. Next was split one newbie Beau Cubis from Lewis Dodimead, Cal Whatmore, Simon Black, Richard Lock, Paul Larkin and Gavin [...]

Cream rises at the Resort

Week Nine of the iRacing V8 Supercar Series by Bigpond Sport kicked back at the resort, Virginia International Raceway. But nobody was relaxing. With daylight savings in effect in Australia, it spread the massive interest in this series over both evening timeslots. This report covers the first event (7.45pm EDST). Real world V8 Supercar racer Scott McLaughlin loves the sweeping, razor-edge curves of the full VIR layout, and he duly snared pole position from Rens Broekman. Series leader Madison Down was third from Richard Hamstead. Fifth was Mitch McLeod after his absence in Round 8, hoping to claw back some margin having slipped to 3rd in the title. Craig Woodhouse was next from the third Nfinity driver Scott U’Ren. Next was Richard Lock, Stuart Wood and Bigpond Sport’s Vern Norrgard [...]
